Happy St Patrick's Day!

Good evening! I know that I usually get this out in the morning, but I have spent my day trying to get as much done as possible. I feel I was successful. I went to Seaworld Orlando, did some yard work, and spent some quality time with my hubby and my friend.

Fitness

I know that St. Patrick's Day is most well known for drinking, but unfortunately bar crawls don't count as exercise.

Studies have shown that people tend to eat, and drink, more if they have recently worked out. For St. Patrick's Day, therefore, I would suggest that if you plan on celebrating that night, you skip your workout that morning. And remember, dancing an Irish jig, or two, at the pub definitely counts as exercise, as does marching in your local parade.

Enjoy your night in moderation, the next day, do a workout. Workout in moderation so as to not dehydrate yourself more. And then get right back in the swing of your fitness programming.

Nutrition

What could scream St. Patrick's Day more than corned beef and cabbage? Other than green beer, not much I would say.

Lucky for you, other than a relatively high sodium count, corned beef and cabbage is loaded with nutrients!

Corned beef boasts protein, zinc, b-vitamins and thiamine. Cabbage is a powerhouse full of vitamin-c, folic acid, and fiber. Throw in potatoes for potassium, iron, zinc, and vitamin-c. Add some yummy carrots to boost beta-carotene, fiber, vitamin-k, and potassium.

Wash all of this delicious yumminess down with a nice dark Irish stout, which when consumed in moderation reduces risks of blood clots,  improves blood flow and blood pressure, and has a ton of flavonoids, which are super healthy antioxidants!

Hooray!

Mind Body Connection

After enjoying a night out celebrating with a thousand of your closest friends, you are probably going to need to recharge yourself mentally.

This March 18, wake up, have a nice steaming hot cup of caffeine filled coffee, eat a breakfast, maybe a bit of left over corned beef and cabbage with some eggs, and just sit. Sit and relax. Let your mind wander. Enjoy the silence. Breathe in the healthy, quiet peace. Try not to think, try to just be. Cuddle up in your favorite sweater and stare out the window. Read a book, crochet, knit, watch a movie. Relax. Remember, a healthy mind is as important as a healthy body.

Remember, hydration is so important to your body. You should always be sure to drink plenty of water, but you should be especially conscious of it if you plan to be drinking.

As always, enjoy in moderation. If you do plan to go out drinking with friends, please be responsible. Drink in moderation, and NEVER drink and drive.

Love and peace to all,

Kris
